It offers B.Tech in three branches: Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), and Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (AI&DS), with a total intake of 240 seats.

IIIT Bangalore Entrance Exam for B.Tech

IIIT Bangalore does not conduct its own IIIT Bangalore entrance exam. Admission to the B.Tech programme is based on the candidate’s best rank in either JEE Main or JEE Advanced. IIIT Bangalore computes a value called the Best JEE Rank (BJR) and uses it for seat allocation. Students who did not appear for JEE Advanced can still apply using their JEE Main CRL only.

What is Best JEE Rank (BJR)?

IIIT Bangalore takes the better of the two ranks, JEE Main CRL and JEE Advanced CRL, as the Best JEE Rank for each applicant.

Scenario Best JEE Rank Used
JEE Main CRL 8000, JEE Advanced CRL 7000 7000 (better rank)
JEE Main CRL 6000, no JEE Advanced 6000
JEE Main CRL 9000, JEE Advanced CRL 10500 9000 (better rank)

Note: This system benefits students who performed better in JEE Advanced than JEE Main or vice versa. Candidates must enter their JEE Advanced CRL in the application if they have appeared for it.

IIIT Bangalore B.Tech Seat Matrix 2026

All 240 seats are filled through the IIIT Bangalore admission process. There is no quota for state domicile, management, or NRI seats in the regular B.Tech programme. The IIIT Bangalore seat matrix for B.Tech 2026-27 is as follows.

Programme Total Seats
B.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) 120
B.Tech. in Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) 30

IIIT Bangalore Admission Process for B.Tech 2026

The IIIT Bangalore admission process for B.Tech happens in the following steps.

Step 1: Register on the Admissions Portal

Visit admissions.iiitb.net and register with your email ID. This creates your applicant account. Keep the registered email accessible, as all communication from IIIT Bangalore is sent there.

Step 2: Complete the Application

After JEE Main final results are declared, the complete application window opens. Log in and fill in your academic details, JEE Main CRL, and JEE Advanced CRL (if applicable). Upload the required documents.

Step 3: Pay the Application Fee

Pay the application fee online before the last date. For 2026, the last date to apply and pay the application fee was 8 June 2026.

Step 4: Enter Programme Preferences

Indicate up to 5 programme preferences in order of priority at the time of application. The options are B.Tech CSE, B.Tech ECE, and B.Tech AI&DS (along with Integrated M.Tech options). The preferences entered here are used during Off-Campus rounds for seat allocation.

Step 5: Wait for the Result Lists

Step 6: Accept or Decline the Offer

Candidates who receive an offer can accept it by paying the semester fee online. If you do not pay by the deadline, the offer lapses and the seat goes to the next candidate. If you accept an offer at a lower preference (e.g., Preference 2), you remain eligible for an upgrade to higher preferences in future rounds, subject to seat availability. You are not eligible for lower preferences once you accept or decline an offer.

Step 7: Reporting and Document Verification

Candidates who have accepted the admission offer must report to the IIIT Bangalore campus on the notified date for document verification and confirmation. Failure to report is treated as declining the offer and the seat is released.

IIIT Bangalore Admission Rounds

IIIT Bangalore ECE Cutoff

IIIT Bangalore Admission: Olympiad Route

Up to 5 seats across all B.Tech and Integrated M.Tech programmes are reserved for candidates selected in these two Olympiads:

  1. International Mathematical Olympiad Training Camp (IMOTC)
  2. International Olympiad in Informatics Training Camp (IOITC)

This is the only route for IIIT Bangalore direct admission without relying solely on JEE rank. If more than 5 eligible Olympiad candidates apply, seats are allocated in order of Best JEE Rank. Candidates not selected through the Olympiad route are automatically considered under the regular BJR-based process.

How to Get Admission in IIIT Bangalore for B.Tech?

To get admission in IIIT Bangalore for B.Tech, a candidate needs to:

  1. Qualify JEE Main (and optionally JEE Advanced) with a good rank.

How to Get into IIIT Bangalore Without JEE

There is no direct admission to IIIT Bangalore B.Tech without JEE. The only alternative route is through the Olympiad category (IMOTC or IOITC), which covers up to 5 seats total across all programmes. This is an extremely limited pathway. For all other candidates, JEE Main or JEE Advanced rank is mandatory for IIIT Bangalore B.Tech admission.

IIIT Bangalore Admission Portal

The official IIIT Bangalore admission portal for B.Tech is admissions.iiitb.net.

IIIT Bangalore Admission: AI&DS and AI/ML Courses

IIIT Bangalore offers B.Tech in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (AI&DS) as a dedicated 4-year programme with 90 seats. This is one of the few B.Tech-level AI-focused programmes in India available at a deemed research university of this standing.

The AI&DS curriculum covers theoretical underpinnings of data science, statistics, AI and machine learning. From the sixth semester, students choose elective courses under the CBCS system. Optional specialisations include AI Theory and AI in Data Domains. Students can also take a Minor in Software Systems, VLSI, or Digital Society. This is what candidates searching for the IIIT Bangalore AI ML course or IIIT Bangalore data science programme should be targeting.

IIIT Bangalore Admission: IIIT-Bangalore Internal Rank (IIR)

After the application deadline, IIIT Bangalore publishes an internal rank (IIR) for every applicant based on their position among all B.Tech and Integrated M.Tech applicants sorted by Best JEE Rank. IIR is published alongside cutoff announcements after each round.

Candidates can use IIR to estimate how many applicants stand between their rank and the current cutoff, helping them gauge admission probability in upcoming rounds.
