JoSAA Round 5 Seat Allotment Result: What to Do After Checking

Once the JoSAA counselling seat allotment is confirmed on the portal, there are specific steps that must be completed before the July 20 deadline. Checking the result is only the first step; failing to complete the reporting process within the window is treated the same as not accepting the seat.

Step 1: Accept the Seat

Log in to the portal and confirm acceptance for seat. This is the first step to be taken after downloading the allotment letter.

Step 2: Payment of JoSAA Counselling Fee (Seat Acceptance Fee)

The seat acceptance fee (SAF) will be paid online on the JoSAA portal by July 20, 2026, 5:00 pm. The JoSAA Counselling 2026 Seat Acceptance Fee is Rs 35,000 for General/OBC-NCL/EWS candidates and Rs 15,000 for SC/ST/PwD students. This fee has to be paid at the time of admission in the designated institute via UPI, Net Banking, Debit Card, Credit Card, or SBI e-Challan.

Step 3: Upload Documents to Verify Online

Candidates shall upload scanned copies of the requisite papers through the portal after SAF payment. It analyses whether the documents are complete and asks questions if something is missing or inaccurate.

Step 4: Answer questions to confirm your answer

If the document verification system raises an inquiry, it should be answered by the given date. Non-response may lead to cancellation of seats after payment of SAF.

Step 5: Implement Physical Reporting

Candidates are required to report physically at the designated institute with original documents after online reporting. Physical reporting dates are decided by the individual institutes after the conclusion of JoSAA; candidates should consult the official website of the institute for the dates.

Documents Required for JoSAA Round 5 Online Reporting

Candidates need to prepare these documents in scanned format for upload. Physical verification requires originals to be produced at the institute. All documents must be legible, recent, and in the prescribed format. OBC-NCL and EWS candidates need to pay close attention to one specific requirement.

Any certificate issued prior to April 1, 2026, even by a day, will not be accepted for document verification in Round 5. Candidates whose certificates are about to expire or were issued before this date must obtain fresh certificates from the competent authority before the reporting deadline.

JoSAA Counselling Round 5 Seat Allotment: IIT vs NIT+ Key Differences

Round 5 works differently for IIT/IISc candidates compared to NIT, IIIT, and GFTI candidates. Understanding this distinction matters for decisions made between July 16 and July 20.

IIT and IISc Candidates:

Round 5 is the final and absolute round for IIT and IISc seats. For IIT and IISc candidates, the withdrawal window fell during Round 4: July 11 to July 14, 2026 (5:00 PM IST). This was the last opportunity to exit the seat allocation process for IIT and IISc seats. Once Round 5 allotment begins on July 16, no withdrawal from an IIT or IISc seat is possible under any circumstances.

IIT candidates who accept their Round 5 seat complete all admission formalities with the institute directly. There is no PAF payment; admission fees are collected by the institute during physical reporting.

NIT+ System Candidates (NITs, IIITs, GFTIs):

NIT+ candidates may still initiate a seat withdrawal or exit during this window (July 16 to July 20) before PAF payment, which enables them to enter CSAB Special Rounds. Candidates who keep their NIT+ seat must pay the partial admission fee between July 22 and July 24, 2026. After Round 5, NIT+ system candidates must pay the Partial Admission Fee of ₹40,000 (General/OBC-NCL/EWS) or ₹20,000 (SC/ST/PwD). This fee is non-refundable and is adjusted against the full admission fee charged by the allotted institute.

Round 5 JoSAA Opening and Closing Ranks 2026

The OR-CR data released alongside the JoSAA Round 5 Seat Allotment Result 2026 is the most important cutoff reference for the entire counselling cycle. Round 5 closing ranks are the final, definitive ranks at which seats were filled, making this data the most reliable benchmark for future planning.

Round 5 closing ranks are the most relaxed of all five rounds for NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs, making it a genuine opportunity for candidates who did not receive a desired allotment in earlier rounds. Candidates can access OR-CR data from the portal’s eServices section after logging in.

Step 1: Log in to josaa.nic.in

Step 2: Go to “eServices” and click “OR-CR”

Step 3: Select “Round 5” and filter by institute type, institute name, programme, and category.

Step 4: Download the PDF for offline reference

Round 5 OR-CR data is particularly useful for JEE 2027 aspirants who want to understand what rank range is needed to secure a specific branch at a specific institute.

JoSAA 2026 Round 5 Seat Allotment: Common Mistakes to Avoid

These are the errors that candidates repeat every year in the final round. All of them are avoidable.

  • Once the result is declared, download your seat allotment letter. Heavy traffic on the portal is expected later. Expect delays.
  • Pay Seat Acceptance Fee (SAF) by July 20, 2026, 5:00 PM. Don’t wait until the last minute, as payment may not go through.
  • OBC-NCL or EWS certificate should be issued after 1st April 2026. Older certificates will not be accepted.
  • Candidates of IIT and IISc cannot withdraw from their seats after Round 5. The deadline for withdrawals was July 14, 2026.
  • The SAF and the Partial Admission Fee (PAF) are payable by the candidates of NIT+, IIIT, and GFTI. If you miss a PAF payment, your seat may be cancelled.
  • Check the JoSAA portal regularly for queries on document verification. If you have any queries left unanswered, your allotted seat may be cancelled.
