JEE Main 2026 Registration: Why NTA Needs CBSE Registration Number?

The National Testing Agency introduced this rule to make the registration and verification process smoother for everyone. In previous years, many students faced issues because their details in the JEE Main form, board exams, and counselling records didn’t match. These small errors often caused confusion, delays, and extra verification steps.

To fix this issue, NTA now asks students to enter their Class 11 CBSE Registration Number while filling out the JEE Main 2026 form. This number helps create a single verified record that stays the same from Class 11 to JEE Main and final admissions.

How Will This Change Impact JEE Main Registration 2026?

  • It helps stop duplicate or fake applications by linking each JEE form with an official CBSE record.
  • It ensures that your details stay consistent across schools, CBSE, NTA, and JoSAA counselling.
  • It makes document verification quicker and simpler during the admission process.
  • It helps prevent any clash in dates between CBSE Class 12 board exams and JEE Main sessions.

As per an official update on October 30, 2025, CBSE stated that NTA added this step to make verification more transparent, accurate, and student-friendly. Schools have also been told to share Class 11 registration numbers with students applying for JEE Main 2026 so they can fill in their details correctly.
