JEE Mains is the crucial step that opens doors for admissions into prestigious institutions like IIT’s and NIT’s. Approximately 15 lakh aspirants appear for the JEE Main exam making it one of the highly competitive exams to crack. The National Testing Agency (NTA)’s recent announcement about the change in exam pattern made anticipation about the cutoffs for JEE Main 2025. Experts say NTA’s recent announcement on discontinuing the optional questions in section B of Paper 2 is expected to increase the exam difficulty and this might result in lowering the exam cut-offs.
Overview: JEE Mains 2025 Exam Pattern Change
The JEE Main exam, an entrance test for engineering programs in India, evaluates students’ knowledge in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Until 2024, the exam featured 90 questions divided across three subjects in a three-hour duration. Each subject consisted of 30 questions, divided into Section A with 20 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and Section B with 10 numerical questions, from which students could select any 5 to answer. This flexibility was introduced in 2021 to accommodate the challenges posed by the pandemic. However, starting in 2025, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has decided to revert to the original exam format for JEE Main. As per the new changed pattern, Section B will only have 5 questions of which students have to answer every question. Students are expected to face slight difficulty as this new pattern leaves no option for candidates to choose between the questions like the previous exam pattern.

How Can This Effect Cut-Offs?
This New Jee exam pattern 2025 is expected to lower the cut-offs as aspirants might focus on comprehensively studying every chapter in physics, chemistry, and mathematics to answer all 5 questions asked in section B of the Jee main 2025 exam. This new pattern aims to bring a balanced approach, eliminating the old practice of students focusing on theoretical questions for scoring while skipping the numerical part. This will also change the way aspirants prepare for Jee Mains 2025. Experts are advising students to understand the importance of the comprehensive approach and to prepare for the exam accordingly giving equal importance for each subject.
