How does NTA Prepare JEE Main Result 2026?

The NTA JEE Main Result is calculated by converting the candidates’ raw marks from the aggregate marks in the exam into percentile scores. The percentile computation is performed for each subject (mathematics, physics, chemistry), and the aggregate score is converted to percentile marks.

NTA and percentile scores are the same thing. NTA uses a predefined algorithm to convert candidates’ raw scores into a percentile score or NTA score. Take a look at how NTA converts the rough score to a percentile.

How Does NTA Calculate Percentile Score?

A JEE Main percentile score is a normalised score, not a percentage, that represents the proportion of candidates who scored equal to or lower than a certain candidate in a given session. To accommodate changes in difficulty across shifts, NTA will convert raw scores to percentile values.

Conversion of raw score to percentile score: Candidates’ raw scores are converted to percentile scores in each topic, as well as the overall raw score. This is done for both exam sessions.

  • Raw scores of mathematics are converted to percentile scores.
  • The raw score in physics is converted to a percentile score.
  • The raw score in chemistry is converted to a percentile score.
  • The total raw score is transformed to a percentile score.

The formula for calculating JEE Main scores is as follows:

How is the All India Rank calculated in JEE Mains 2026

NTA ranks candidates on an all-India basis based on the JEE Mains 2026 results. The JEE Main Rank List 2026 is available following the publication of the session 2 results. Candidates with higher percentiles are placed higher on the ranking list, and so on. The applicants are listed in descending order of their final total NTA score.

How the Tie-Breaking Policy Works in JEE Main Rank List

While preparing the JEE Main Rank List, two or more applicants may achieve the same score in the JEE Main 2026 exam. In such instances, candidates’ ranks will be determined using the tie-breaking rule outlined below:

  • NTA score in Mathematics
  • NTA score in Physics
  • NTA score in Chemistry
  • Candidate with a lower proportion of the number of tried incorrect answers and correct responses in all subjects in the test.
  • Candidate with a smaller proportion of the number of tried incorrect answers and correct answers in Mathematics on the test
  • A candidate with a lower proportion of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Physics in the test
  • Candidate with a lower proportion of the number of tried incorrect answers and correct answers in Chemistry in the exam
  • If there is still a tie after this, the participants will be assigned the same rank.

JEE Main Final Answer Key 2026

After the publication of the provisional answer key, NTA has also released the JEE Main Final Answer Key before the scores announcement. The JEE Mains 2026 Final Answer Key is prepared by a panel of experts after carefully reviewing the objections raised by the students to the provisional copy.

The final and revised copy of the JEE Main Answer Key 2026 is uploaded at the official website. To download the JEE Main Final Answer Key PDF, you are not required to enter any credentials. It should also be noted that there is no facility to object to the JEE Mains Final Answer key.

Calculate Score using JEE Main Final Answer Key 2026

Candidates can estimate their probable raw score by comparing the question ID and answer ID in the JEE Main final answer key to those on their response sheets. This method allows applicants to calculate their most likely raw score.

According to the marking scheme, participants are rewarded four marks for each correct answer, one mark is deducted for each incorrect response, unattempted questions are worth zero marks, and questions dropped in a certain shift earn all candidates in that shift four marks each.
